The problem
Intervention: None—this is an observational study examining associations between parental socioeconomic status and children's eating irregularity
Who it was tested with: 568 preschool children aged 3-6 years participating in the DAGIS study in Finland (2015-2016).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Childreńs dietary intake was measured by a 3-day food record" and "The associations were tested by general linear models"; this is a cross-sectional design measuring associations between parental socioeconomic factors (as predictors) and children's energy intake irregularity (as outcome), with no intervention or comparison group.
This is observational data without a causal design. The study measured only energy intake and not other chrono-nutritional factors such as meal timing or frequency. Participants were limited to Finnish preschool children, reducing generalisability.
