The problem
Intervention: None - this is a comparative observational study
Who it was tested with: 80 adolescents in Aligarh city, India: 30 child labourers (from canteens, shops, markets) and 50 regular school-going students.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"sample of the study comprises of 80 adolescents out of whom 50 are regular school going and rests 30 were child labour selected purposively from different schools, canteen, shops, and markets... data was then analyzed through descriptive statistics and t-test". The absence of a control condition and single-timepoint measurement means this cannot determine whether child labour causes emotional differences, only whether associations exist at one point in time.
Purposive sampling from single city limits generalisability; cross-sectional design cannot determine causality; no information on confounding variables or demographic characteristics; small sample size, particularly for child labour group
