The problem
Intervention: No intervention was tested; this is an observational study examining associations between adversity, maternal depression, and reward responsivity
Who it was tested with: 71 children aged 5-6 years enrolled in a study on intergenerational transmission of depression.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Children completed the doors reward task to assess the reward positivity (RewP) event-related potential" and "Linear regressions indicated that ELA composites were not significantly related to RewP. However, current maternal depression symptoms moderated the association between deprivation and RewP." This is observational research examining associations between risk factors and neurobiological outcomes, not testing an intervention.
Small sample size (n=71), cross-sectional design preventing causal inference, single cohort limiting generalisability. No intervention was evaluated, so this is descriptive rather than evaluative research.
