The problem
Intervention: No specific intervention was tested; this is an observational study examining the association between children's bullying victimization and maternal suicidal ideation
Who it was tested with: 1,466 children and immigrant mothers from multicultural families in South Korea.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"this study estimated individual fixed effects models to control for unobserved individual-level heterogeneity. Interaction models were used to investigate potential heterogeneity by family socioeconomic status." The use of fixed effects models over nine waves of longitudinal data strengthens causal inference by controlling for time-invariant confounders, making this an experimental tier study despite its observational nature.
Observational design cannot establish causation. Study population limited to South Korea's multicultural families. Unable to determine direction of effects or unmeasured confounding despite fixed effects approach.
