The problem
Intervention: No intervention was tested; this is an observational study examining the association between categories of anthropometric failures and early child development outcomes
Who it was tested with: 98,189 children aged 36-59 months across 34 low- and middle-income countries.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We used multivariable linear regression models to estimate the association between CAF and ECDI z-scores." This is an observational study measuring association between existing anthropometric patterns and development outcomes, not an intervention trial, making it descriptive rather than evaluative of any specific programmatic action.
Cross-sectional design cannot establish causation. No intervention was evaluated, so this is observational evidence only. Country-specific differences and confounding factors may not be fully controlled. The direction and magnitude of findings are consistent but this is not intervention evaluation evidence.
