The problem
Intervention: No intervention was tested; this was an observational study examining the association between animal feces exposure/Giardia infection and child health outcomes
Who it was tested with: 639 children under 5 years of age in six districts across three Cambodian provinces (Phnom Penh, Kratie, Ratanak Kiri).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"Data for this study was drawn from the third follow-up round of the MyHealth project cohort study that is conducted in six districts of three Cambodian provinces... The analysis included a sample of 639 children under 5 years of age." This is a longitudinal cohort study design with multiple follow-up rounds, meeting the criteria for experimental evidence tier.
The abstract provides incomplete statistical results, particularly regarding multivariate analysis. Specific numerical findings (odds ratios, confidence intervals, sample sizes per outcome) are not reported in the abstract.
