The problem
Intervention: No intervention was tested; this is an observational study examining associations between child marriage, displacement, and decision-making autonomy using surveys and qualitative interviews.
Who it was tested with: 991 ever-married young women in three Yemeni governorates (Aden, Hadramout, Ma'arib), with 47 also participating in in-depth interviews; approximately 55% married before age 18 and 50% had been displaced..
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We use logistic regression to examine the association between child marriage and autonomy in decision-making around marriage. We then conduct thematic analysis of in-depth interviews to examine decision-making processes and motivations in marriage." The design identifies associations between demographic factors and reported involvement in marriage decisions, but cannot determine causation or whether reported involvement reflects genuine agency versus normative responses about family decision processes.
The study is observational without a comparison or control group, relies on self-reported measures of decision-making involvement which may not reflect actual agency, and was conducted during an active conflict period which may have affected data collection and responses.
