The problem
Intervention: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccination with PCV10 and/or PCV13
Who it was tested with: Children aged 6-36 months with acute otitis media in Casablanca, Morocco.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"In this prospective, multicenter, cross-sectional study (2020-2024), children aged 6-36 months with AOM had a nasopharyngeal swab performed. Isolates were serotyped by Quellung reaction and PCR and classified as vaccine (VTs) or non-vaccine types (NVTs)." The study measures serotype distribution according to vaccination status but lacks a control group to establish effectiveness.
Cross-sectional design without unvaccinated comparison group; serotype carriage does not directly measure vaccine effectiveness against infection; does not assess clinical outcomes of infection
