The problem
Intervention: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV13 with potential switch to PCV20)
Who it was tested with: Children aged ≤15 years hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed invasive pneumococcal disease in Argentina.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Multicenter prospective observational study based on active surveillance, conducted in 6 pediatric sentinel hospitals (October 2022-September 2025)". This is an active surveillance study designed to monitor disease trends and characterize circulating serotypes, not to compare vaccinated versus unvaccinated populations or measure vaccine effectiveness directly.
This is surveillance data without a comparison group or control population, so the impact of vaccination on IPD reduction cannot be directly measured. The study describes disease burden and serotype distribution but does not evaluate vaccination effectiveness.
