The problem
Intervention: Introduction of rotavirus vaccination (Rotavac from April 2016, switched to ROTASIIL in January 2022)
Who it was tested with: Children aged under 5 years hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis in four hospitals in Odisha, India.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Children aged under 5 y hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in four hospitals in Odisha between January and December 2023 were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Stool samples were tested for rotavirus using an enzyme immunoassay." This represents surveillance data collection without a comparison group, making it practitioner-level evidence that documents ongoing disease despite vaccination.
Cross-sectional design without comparison group or baseline data; hospital-based sample does not represent community-level disease burden; individual vaccination status of children not reported; no data on vaccination coverage rates in the population.
