The problem
Intervention: Rotavirus vaccination (primarily pentavalent rotavirus vaccine RV5) with adverse event surveillance
Who it was tested with: Children born in Suzhou, China between 2017-2023 (birth cohort study).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"The basic information of children born between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2023 in Suzhou and information regarding rotavirus vaccination were collected through the child module of Jiangsu Province Vaccination Integrated Service Management Information System. Information on AEFI case reports was collected from the AEFI monitoring system of the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention." The study used routine health system data to track vaccination coverage and safety outcomes over seven years in a defined birth cohort.
This is a passive surveillance study based on reported cases from existing health systems, not an active safety study. No comparison group exists to determine if adverse event rates differ from other vaccines. Coverage analysis is descriptive only and does not identify barriers or drivers of vaccine uptake.
