The problem
Intervention: Rotavirus vaccination coverage expansion
Who it was tested with: Children younger than 5 years in Thailand.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Rotavirus vaccine impact was evaluated among children younger than 5 years of age" and findings showed "Each 1% increase in rotavirus vaccine coverage was associated with 2·0% reduced rotavirus admissions." This demonstrates a dose-response relationship between vaccine coverage and reduced hospitalisations from rotavirus infection.
The study is observational and cannot establish causality definitively; it does not provide specific baseline and endpoint vaccine coverage percentages or admission numbers; unmeasured confounders may affect the association.
