The problem
Intervention: Routine immunization program implementation according to national schedule
Who it was tested with: Children aged 18 months to 72 months in 13 malaria-endemic communities in Malabo District, Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea (n=297).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A cross-sectional survey was nested within a larger study and was conducted between September 2019 and March 2020. Children aged 18 months to 6 years living in 13 malaria-endemic communities in Malabo District, Bioko Island were enrolled. Immunization status was ascertained from vaccination cards or caregiver recall." The study documents the current coverage levels but only describes the immunization status without testing an intervention to improve it.
Cross-sectional design cannot determine causation; study does not investigate specific barriers to immunization or reasons for incomplete coverage in this population.
