The problem
Intervention: Routine childhood immunization with pentavalent vaccine administered in three doses; this study identifies barriers to completion and associated risk factors
Who it was tested with: Children aged 12-23 months in the Central African Republic who had received at least the first pentavalent dose (n=4,121).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"We conducted a cross-sectional household survey from December 2023 to March 2024, based on a nationally representative sample covering all seven health regions and 35 districts of the CAR... Survey-weighted logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with vaccine dropout." The study documents the prevalence of incompletion and identifies associated barriers rather than testing an intervention to improve completion rates.
Cross-sectional design limits causal inference; partial reliance on caregiver recall rather than verified records; unable to measure actual implementation quality or follow-up mechanisms at health facilities
