The problem
Intervention: Not applicable - this is an observational study examining the association between sexual assault exposure and dental service utilization
Who it was tested with: Brazilian adolescents aged 13-17 years (n=124,106; 50.4% female, 66.3% aged 13-15).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Cross-sectional analyses using data from the 2019 Brazilian National School Health Survey were performed with stata 18.5, applying survey weights." The study is observational rather than interventional, examining associations in a large nationally representative sample, making it appropriate for describing existing patterns but not for evaluating causal effects of interventions.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference. Self-reported data on sensitive topics may underestimate prevalence. No information on mechanisms explaining reduced service use or potential confounders.
