The problem
Intervention: Family-based economic empowerment comprising child development accounts, financial literacy training, family income-generating activities and peer mentorship
Who it was tested with: Orphaned adolescents aged 10-16 in Uganda (1,383 participants in original study).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"The Original Bridges study participants will be tracked for an additional four years (2022-2026) to examine the longitudinal developmental and behavioral health outcomes and potential mechanisms of the effect of protective health behaviors of the Bridges cohort." The longitudinal design with repeated measurement allows examination of whether benefits persist and mechanisms of effect, though the absence of a comparison group limits causal inference about the intervention's independent contribution.
This is a protocol document describing planned research rather than completed results. The original study lacked details on comparison group design. Long-term follow-up outcomes and biomedical data results are not yet available.
