The problem
Intervention: BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) COVID-19 vaccination with long-term tolerability follow-up
Who it was tested with: Children and adolescents under 18 years old who received at least one dose of BNT162b2 in Germany on or after 1 October 2021; 3,228 participants with median age 5.7 years.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"In a retrospective, cross-sectional study, we evaluated self-reported vaccine tolerability (SRVT) in eleven symptom categories among persons who were under 18 years old when they received at least one dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine in Germany on or after 1 October 2021." This design collected baseline-to-follow-up data on the same population without a concurrent control group, making it a PRE_POST study, with mixed findings showing good tolerability overall but higher symptom rates than other vaccines.
Retrospective self-reported data with selection bias risk; parental recall rather than clinical assessment; comparison group limited; no randomization; relies on authenticated but unsupervised online reporting
