The problem
Intervention: School-based health education programmes targeting vaccine knowledge, attitudes, and uptake
Who it was tested with: Children and adolescents aged 6-18 years in school settings.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched six databases up to August 2024 for interventional studies evaluating school-based educational programmes targeting students aged 6-18 years. Randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies assessing outcomes related to vaccine knowledge, attitudes, intention to vaccinate, or uptake were included." This systematic review synthesises evidence from rigorous study designs to assess the effectiveness of school-based vaccination education programmes.
High heterogeneity among studies, variable methodological quality, limited evidence on long-term sustainability, and predominant focus on HPV vaccination limit generalisability to other vaccines and settings
