The problem
Intervention: School-based HPV vaccination campaign integrated with community mobilisation, school health talks, door-to-door sensitisation and multisectoral coordination
Who it was tested with: Girls aged 9-14 years and boys aged 9-11 years in nine districts across Centre, Littoral, South and West regions of Cameroon.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"School-based vaccination is an effective strategy for reaching adolescents; however, it had not previously been implemented nationally. This study describes the implementation and outcomes of the first EPI-led school-based HPV vaccination campaign in Cameroon." The study documents implementation processes and outcomes without comparison to previous approaches, representing practitioner experience of introducing a new delivery model.
No comparison group with facility or community-based approaches; no data on vaccine schedule completion or longer-term follow-up; reasons for non-uptake among 52% not vaccinated not documented; misclassification of previous vaccinees affected coverage estimates.
