The problem
Intervention: Vaccination counselling and catch-up vaccination programmes offered to refugee children following arrival in Switzerland
Who it was tested with: 517 Ukrainian paediatric refugees aged 0-18 years who arrived in Switzerland between February and October 2022.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Following arrival in Switzerland, 98% (509/517) of participants completed catch-up vaccination programmes. Moreover, the marked improvement in vaccination coverage after counselling highlights the effectiveness of addressing vaccine hesitancy in refugee populations." The study shows that vaccination counselling successfully overcame vaccine hesitancy barriers, resulting in near-universal catch-up vaccination completion.
Study design does not include a comparison group, so causality cannot be established. Pre-arrival vaccination status was based on available documentation and may not reflect true coverage. The specific content and intensity of counselling interventions is not detailed.
