The problem
Intervention: No intervention tested; this is a descriptive comparative study examining the psychiatric and psychosocial profile of girls who married early versus control groups
Who it was tested with: 40 girls married before age 15 in Turkiye, compared with 40 unmarried adolescent peers and 40 adults married at ≥18 years.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Psychiatric diagnoses were assessed using the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children - Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL). Participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory, Brief Symptom Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory I-II, Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support." The study uses validated instruments to compare three defined groups but employs a case-control design that identifies associations rather than testing an intervention effect.
This is a descriptive comparative study without a randomised or quasi-experimental design. It documents associations but does not test an intervention or isolate causal mechanisms. The cross-sectional nature limits understanding of temporal relationships and whether psychiatric conditions preceded or resulted from early marriage.
