The problem
Intervention: School feeding programme
Who it was tested with: School-aged children in Liberia, with subgroup analysis by gender, displacement status, and household literacy.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Using the propensity score-matching technique, we find that the SFP leads to a statistically significant decrease in child labour estimated at between 14 and 17%." This approach attempts to establish causal inference by matching programme participants to non-participants with similar observed characteristics, approximating experimental conditions from observational data.
Propensity score matching relies on observable characteristics; unobserved confounders may remain. The study uses cross-sectional data which cannot fully establish causality. Results are specific to Liberia's 2007 context.
