The problem
Intervention: Measles vaccination (MCV1 at 9 months and MCV2 at 15 months) provided through various vaccination settings including mobile vaccinators
Who it was tested with: 3,596 healthy children aged 18-24 months with documented measles vaccination history across seven districts in Pakistan.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A cross-sectional survey was conducted between April 2019 and October 2020 in seven districts across Pakistan. Using a multistage sampling technique, healthy children aged 18-24 months with a history of measles vaccination were randomly enrolled... Venous blood samples (3 cc) were collected and tested for measles IgG antibodies using ELISA." This is a cross-sectional measurement design that assessed seroprevalence in vaccinated children without a comparison group or follow-up, making it a PRE_POST tier study focused on describing vaccination outcomes rather than testing an intervention against a control.
Cross-sectional design cannot establish causation; only measures one point in time so cannot determine duration of immunity; does not explain mechanisms behind differences between vaccination settings; no comparison group to assess whether unvaccinated children had different outcomes.
