Epidemiological features of violence against children and teenagers in a hospital of reference in the Amazon Rainforest

1. Introduction Although violence against children and adolescents is an extremely important issue for society, it is still a topic that is not much debated in Brazil. Currently in Brazil, complaints of violence against children and teenagers are made in several different places and there is no program to regulate and follow on those complaints. As a result, in several cases there is no knowledge of how those cases ended. EFFORTS TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF MODULE FOR MIDWIFE PROFESSION

Background: Violence against children during the COVID-19 pandemic has increased drastically. One of the efforts to prevent violence against children is through dissemination of information to the midwife through the use of the media, namely the CENDANA module for Midwives on the prevention of child violence. This research aimed to find out the results of expert validation of the CENDANA module and analysed the implementation effect of the module on increasing the knowledge of Midwives.Methods: Uses quantitative methods with descriptive design and pretest posttest with control group design. The topics were obtained from previous research, then expert validation was carried out consisting of material experts, education experts, and media experts. Next is the module trial, with 60 respondents in the intervention group and control group. The intervention group was given a modules, and the control group was given leaflets. Data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney test. The research instrument was in the form of a questionnaire.Results: The measurement after the intervention, it showed that there was a significant difference in the post data, the increase data, and the increase percentage of knowledge in the two treatment groups (p<0.05). The increase percentage amount of knowledge scores in the intervention group was 54.4%, while in the control group there was no increase (0%). Conclusion: It was found that the CENDANA’s module was said to be feasible, and there was an implementation effect of the module on increasing the knowledge of Midwives about prevention of violence against children.

Nurturing attachments group: A virtual group intervention for adults caring for traumatised children in the context of COVID-19

Background: Evidence indicates that the more traditional and behavioural parenting strategies are ineffective when parenting a child who has experienced developmental trauma. Recognising the need to parent with an attachment focus, the current paper evaluates the effectiveness of running the [Enfys] Nurturing Attachments Group, virtually, within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: A pilot feasibility study evaluated eight bespoke groups. Consenting professionals and co-professionals completed the Brief Parental Self-Efficacy Scale (BFSS), Care Questionnaire (CQ) and the Parental Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (PRFQ). Results: One hundred forty individuals attended the groups, with 51 (36%) completing both pre-and post-measures. The results provide evidence that professionals and co-professionals reported statistically significant positive increases on both the BPSS ( d = .55) and CQ ( d = .62). For the PRFQ, the results showed a statistically significant decrease on the Pre-mentalising sub scale, a non-significant mid-range score for Certainty about Mental States and a non-significant increase for Parental Interest and Curiosity in Mental States. Conclusion: The study has demonstrated initial viability of effectively facilitating the [Enfys] Nurturing Attachments Group, virtually. Importantly, it has also shown that the group can be run with professionals alongside co-professionals.

Investigation of Violence Against Children in Schools with Types and Related Variables: Kosovo Sample

The main purpose of this study was to conduct an investigation on the level (extent) of violence against children in school, on types of violence and on the relationship between violence and demographic characteristics of children (gender, residence and age). This study focused on a sample group of 618 children, respectively students of grades 10 to 12 of higher secondary schools in Prishtina, Kosovo. With this sample group a structured questionnaire applied, which was composed of four (4) questions for each of the following types of violence: violence against the property of children and school property, psychological violence, physical violence and sexual violence. Results of this study have shown that approximately 87% of children have experienced, at least, once one type of violence throughout their education. Among these types of violence, violence against the property of children and against school property has been reported the most (73.6%), which is followed by psychological violence (69.3%), then physical violence (47.5%) and sexual violence (22.1%). Data have shown that in the level of reliability α = 0.5, gender as a demographic factor has appeared to be more influential in the prevalence of some types of violence (violence against property, psychological violence and physical violence), residence has appeared to be influential when speaking about physical violence only, while age has been shown to be an influential factor in the prevalence of violence against children in school.

Nurturing roots: Motivations of Inuit foster parents caring for Inuit children in Nunavik

BACKGROUND: Indigenous children are overrepresented in the child protection system in Canada, particularly in Nunavik, Quebec, where Inuit children face significant risks of being placed outside their communities. Previous studies have often centered on service providers or the perspectives of non-Indigenous foster families, neglecting the voices of Inuit foster parents themselves. OBJECTIVE: This study explored the motivations and experiences of Inuit foster parents in Nunavik for becoming and remaining foster parents, as well as factors that could lead to a cessation of care provision. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Fifteen Inuit foster parents (12 women, 3 men) from various communities in Nunavik participated in semi-structured interviews. Interviews were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. RESULTS: Key motivations for fostering included keeping children within the family, preserving cultural identity, and respecting the child's preferences. Foster parents reported significant challenges, including a lack of support from child protection services and dealing with trauma. CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights the critical role of Inuit foster parents in maintaining cultural continuity for Inuit children and underscores the need for supportive policies and practices that recognize their motivations and values. Enhanced support and culturally sensitive approaches are essential to improve the recruitment and retention of Inuit foster parents.

The role of the social work profession in facing the problem of violence against children with disabilities

The issue of violence against children has received a lot of attention in all regions of the world, as children are exposed to excessive violence in almost every aspect of their lives. Many efforts have been made and still are being made to confront this serious problem. It is noticeable through some observations, some statistics, and the results of some research studies that the rates of violence directed at a child with a disability are higher than the rates of violence directed at a non-disabled child. Perhaps this may be due to several reasons, which will be explained in the current work paper.The working paper aimed to shed some light on the problem of child violence directed at the child with a disability, in terms of: definition, types, statistics, and factors leading ... The working paper also aimed to clarify the role of the social work profession in facing or confronting this problem. Perhaps clarifying this provides social workers who are working in the field of disability a guide to help them know the professional roles required of them and to perform or exercise these roles. At the end of the working paper, a number of proposals and recommendations were presented that could be used in improving the process of effective confrontation of the problem of violence against children in general and violence against children with disabilities in particular.

Attractive Caregiving: Women’s Preference for Men that Care for Children and the Role of Nurturance Motivation and Menstrual Cycle Phase

Abstract Another person’s caring abilities, in addition to physical features, may affect the observed attractiveness of that person. Using two newly developed instruments, we tested whether women ( N = 360) judge men as more attractive when they are depicted in interactions with children (picture task) or accompanied by information on caring behavior (vignette task). Furthermore, we tested if such an effect is moderated by the following personal factors: women’s nurturance motivation, having (a desire to have) a child, women’s menstrual cycle phase, and use of oral contraceptives. In the picture task, women rate men as more attractive when they are depicted in interaction with a child, and this effect was enhanced by women who have high nurturance motivation and women who have (a desire to have) a child. Although the vignette task did not show a main effect of caring behavior, there was an effect of the menstrual cycle phase, demonstrating increased overall attractiveness ratings around the time of ovulation. This study confirms that perceived caring abilities in men can influence attractiveness evaluations, but that this effect varies depending on women’s own caring tendencies and desire for children, and that also the menstrual cycle phase can affect evaluations of the opposite sex. These findings add to the increasing literature that attempts to provide a more nuanced understanding of the forces that shape decisions that can form some of the most important relations in human lives.

The policy of criminal law is a series of criminal law enforcement that includes stages of policy formulation, and implementation and execution including the eradication of sexual violence against children. so that the law can provide equal justice, and certainty and its benefits in society. This study aims to determine the policy in criminal law in preventing the occurrence of sexual violence against children based on laws and regulations relating to the prevention of sexual violence. The purpose of the study is to determine the implementation or application of laws and regulations as stages of application in society in overcoming sexual violence in criminal acts against children. The method used is normative and the type of research is normative juridical which is based on the principles, principles and provisions of applicable laws and regulations with a review of library materials. The novelty or novelty with previous research focuses more on sanctions or punishments or threats of severe punishment for perpetrators of sexual violence against children, namely the application of the death penalty for the perpetrators. Neuroscience meets nurture: challenges of prematurity and the critical role of family-centred and developmental care as a key part of the neuroprotection care bundle

Advances in neonatal-perinatal medicine have resulted in increased survival at lower gestations. Although the incidence of germinal matrix haemorrhage-intraventricular haemorrhage and cystic periventricular leucomalacia is reducing, a new phenotype of preterm brain injury has emerged consisting of a combination of destructive and dysmaturational effects. Consequently, severe neurological disability is reported at a lower rate than previously, but the overall morbidity associated with premature birth continues to present a large global burden and contributes significantly to increased financial costs to health systems and families. In this review, we examine the developmental milestones of fetal brain development and how preterm birth can disrupt this trajectory. We review common morbidities associated with premature birth today. Although drug-based and cell-based neuroprotective therapies for the preterm brain are under intense study, we outline basic, sustainable and effective non-medical, family-centred and developmental care strategies which have the potential to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes for this population and need to be considered part of the future neuroprotection care bundle.
