The problem
Intervention: HPV vaccination programme with follow-up doses for adolescents and young people living with HIV
Who it was tested with: 274 adolescents and young people living with HIV aged 15-24 years in Uganda, attending an ART clinic.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A cross-sectional study was conducted among 274 adolescents and young people living with HIV... Data were collected using a structured questionnaire examining HPV vaccine uptake (initiation and completion). Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to assess factors associated with HPV vaccine uptake." The study identifies correlates of vaccination uptake and completion through observational analysis but lacks the longitudinal design or control group needed to establish causality or mechanisms of dropout.
Single-site cross-sectional study with no comparison group; cannot establish causation or determine why participants discontinued after initiation; results may not generalize beyond this district hospital clinic setting
