The problem
Intervention: Kanyashree Prakalpa conditional cash transfer scheme providing financial support to promote girls' school attendance and delay early marriage
Who it was tested with: Adolescent school-going girls from low-income families in Chanchal Block, Malda district, West Bengal (n=120).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A descriptive mixed-methods design was adopted. Quantitative data was collected from 120 adolescent school going girls using structured interview schedule, and qualitative data were obtained through a focus group discussion with parents." The study measured perceptions and challenges without a control group or explicit longitudinal design, placing it in the pre-post tier.
The study lacked a comparison group and baseline/endline measurements were not explicitly described. Cross-sectional data collection limits causal inference. No objective verification of early marriage reduction beyond self-reported perception.
