The problem
Intervention: Zewar-e-Taleem Program, a gender-targeted conditional cash transfer scheme to incentivize female schooling
Who it was tested with: Adolescent girls in underprivileged districts of Punjab, Pakistan.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"Using data from the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement survey (district level) for the years 2019-20, the study seeks to assess how this program influenced female enrollment rates in public schools, as well as the age at which adolescent girls enter into marriage in these districts." The study compares outcomes between districts with and without the program, allowing for evaluation of program effects on both school enrollment and early marriage outcomes.
Study uses district-level aggregate data rather than individual-level data; specific quantitative effects are not provided in the abstract; causal inference may be limited by the ecological level of analysis.
