The problem
Intervention: Proposed holistic maternal-child care model integrating physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions with nurse/midwife coordination, integrated records, family-centered care, and continuity from preconception through early childhood
Who it was tested with: 450 children aged 12–59 months in Sleman Regency, Indonesia, selected via multistage cluster sampling.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Guided by the Holistic Maternal and Child Health Continuum of Care Model, data on maternal factors (anemia, pre-eclampsia, ANC utilization) and child factors (immunization status, stunting, developmental delay) were extracted from health records... Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess predictors of childhood illness, controlling for socioeconomic confounders." The study identifies risk factors and their associations but does not test whether implementing the proposed holistic care model actually reduces childhood illness.
Cross-sectional design cannot establish causation or test the effectiveness of the proposed intervention; the model is theorized rather than evaluated in implementation. Data extracted from health records may have completeness and accuracy limitations.
