The problem
Intervention: Aarambh nurturing care model: training and support for anganwadi workers to provide age-appropriate guidance, play activities, and communication strategies to parents, delivered through house visits, mothers' meetings, and community events using existing ICDS and healthcare infrastructure
Who it was tested with: Anganwadi workers and primary caregivers in intervention districts (Ralegaon, Yavatmal) and control districts (Deoli, Wardha) in Maharashtra, Central India.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"This qualitative study evaluated the competencies of AWWs by observing house visits and mothers' meetings in both control and intervention blocks." The study used direct observation and interviews to assess changes in worker capabilities and caregiver support in a quasi-experimental design with comparison areas, though lacking quantitative child outcome measures.
Qualitative design with no quantitative measurement of child development outcomes. Limited detail on comparison with control group performance. No information on sample sizes, response rates, or generalisability beyond the studied districts.
