The problem
Intervention: Identification of risk factors for child maltreatment, particularly parental aggressive tendency and history of childhood maltreatment
Who it was tested with: Parents and children aged 10-16 years in two urban and two rural schools in Zhejiang Province, China (611 parents, 821 children).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Children aged ten to 16 years and their parents completed separate questionnaires, which included: parental childhood maltreatment; parental aggressive tendency; and maltreatment of children." This descriptive study identifies risk factors for maltreatment but does not evaluate an intervention to prevent it.
Cross-sectional design with self-reported data only; cannot establish causation or determine whether maltreatment actually occurred versus parental perception; findings specific to one province.
