The problem
Intervention: Daily vitamin D₃ supplementation at 2000 IU/day (plus 1000 mg elemental calcium) during pregnancy
Who it was tested with: Singleton pregnant women ≤18 weeks gestation with vitamin D deficiency (25-hydroxyvitamin D <20 ng/mL) attending antenatal clinics in India.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A double-blind trial to receive either 500 IU or 2000 IU/day of vitamin D₃ with 1000 mg elemental calcium until delivery" with "Birth outcomes and infant anthropometry will be recorded." This describes a randomised controlled trial design comparing two intervention arms with measurement of preterm birth outcomes.
This is a protocol document describing a planned study, not completed research. No outcome data or effectiveness evidence is presented. The trial's results are pending.
