The problem
Intervention: Daily parental autonomy-supportive parenting (supporting children's independence, choice, and voice in daily interactions)
Who it was tested with: 469 German parents (mean age 42.93 years) of school children aged 6-19 years during COVID-19 pandemic.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Parents completed up to 21 daily online questionnaires in the weeks between these assessments" alongside baseline and follow-up measurements, with "dynamic structural equation models" examining associations. The design tracked the same parents over time with frequent daily reporting, establishing temporal patterns of how autonomy support relates to adjustment changes, though without a control group to confirm causal effects.
Study relied entirely on parent self-report with no independent child or family outcome measures. Single country context during specific pandemic period limits generalizability. The PRE_POST design lacks a comparison group to establish causality.
