The problem
Intervention: BCG vaccination
Who it was tested with: Children aged 2-14 years in rural Moulavibazar District, Bangladesh.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We conducted a community-based case-control study in Moulavibazar District, enrolling children aged 2-14 years from January 8 to April 30, 2023. Cases had newly diagnosed, confirmed TB; controls were community-matched by neighborhood children without respiratory symptoms." The study used multivariable logistic regression to isolate the protective effect of BCG vaccination while controlling for confounders.
Single district study in Bangladesh; case-control design cannot establish causation; potential for recall bias regarding vaccination history and household exposure; control group selection may affect comparability.
