The problem
Intervention: BCG vaccination delivered at immunisation clinic
Who it was tested with: 386 children aged 12-15 months presenting to immunisation clinic at tertiary hospital in Nepal.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"This observational cross-section study was conducted between 12 September 2022 and 15 April 2024 on children attending a vaccination clinic at a tertiary care hospital for 12 or 15-month vaccination." The study documents vaccine scar outcomes in vaccinated children but without a control group or assessment of protective efficacy, the evidence cannot confirm whether BCG vaccination itself works as intended.
Cross-sectional design with no comparison group; cannot determine factors causing scar failure or whether scar absence affects vaccine protection; no follow-up data on long-term immunity
