The problem
Intervention: Increased maternal autonomy in health decisions and social participation (visiting friends and relatives)
Who it was tested with: Mothers and children from rural Nigeria in the 2013 Demographic and Health Survey.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, composite score analysis, and ordered probit regression." The study measured associations between maternal autonomy variables and child nutrition outcomes using regression analysis on a nationally representative survey sample, but cannot establish causal direction or isolate effects.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference; secondary data limits ability to measure all relevant autonomy dimensions; no exploration of mechanisms or potential confounders.
