The problem
Intervention: Nurse-supervised parent administration of metered-dose inhalers, supported by educational materials, videos, demonstrations, competency checks, and a designated MDI administration space
Who it was tested with: Children aged 4-13 years presenting to a children's emergency department with clinical symptoms requiring bronchodilator therapy via MDI (salbutamol ± ipratropium).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"This multidisciplinary quality improvement project was conducted using the Plan-Do-Study-Act model." The study measured the same outcome (time to second MDI cycle) in the same population before and after implementing a structured intervention, but lacked a concurrent comparison group.
Pre-post design without a comparison group; no mention of other concurrent changes that might explain the time reduction; no data on clinical outcomes for children or long-term sustainability.
