The problem
Intervention: Routine childhood immunization programs delivering six vaccines (BCG, polio, DPT, ROTA, MCV, and PCV) in low- and middle-income countries
Who it was tested with: Children in 43 low- and middle-income countries, measured through national household surveys since 2014.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We used data from national household surveys (Demographic and Health Surveys and Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys) carried out in 43 low- and middle-income countries since 2014. We calculated the immunisation cascade as a score ranging from zero to six...The analyses were pooled across countries and stratified by household wealth quintiles." This is a descriptive epidemiological study using standardized survey data across multiple countries to characterize vaccination patterns and the progression through the vaccination cascade.
Cross-sectional survey design without comparison groups; relies on household recall and reporting; does not identify causal factors or country-specific barriers; cannot distinguish between access issues and vaccine hesitancy
