The problem
Intervention: Transmedia entertainment-education (EE) social and behavior change communication (SBCC) program called 'On the Wings of Wishes' (Icchedana) addressing child marriage-related social norms
Who it was tested with: 3,905 people across 1,102 households in Bangladesh, including fathers, mothers, adolescent boys, and adolescent girls.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A total of 1102 households (n = 3905) with fathers, mothers, adolescent boys, and girls completed the baseline and endline survey. Logistic regression using panel data was conducted." This represents a longitudinal panel design with baseline and endline measurement of the same population, constituting an experimental approach to evaluate the program's effects on social norms.
Study measures shifts in stated norms and perceptions rather than actual behavioral changes in child marriage rates. Differential effects by gender (fathers approving more while mothers and girls approving less) suggest complexity not fully explained. No measurement of whether norm changes translate to protective outcomes for girls.
