Intervention: Journey of Life: a 12-session group-based parenting curriculum delivered to refugee caregivers
Who it was tested with: Refugee caregivers in Kiryandongo refugee settlement, Uganda (intervention n=631, control n=676).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A waitlist-control quasi-experimental design was implemented in the Kiryandongo refugee settlement (intervention n = 631, control n = 676). Propensity score matching (PSM) and Cohen's d estimates were used to examine the intervention effects." This design with a comparison group and statistical controls for selection bias strengthens causal inference compared to pre-post designs without controls.
Study did not measure direct child outcomes or follow-up effects after programme completion. Single settlement context may limit generalisability.
