Intervention: Journey of Life: a 12-session group-based parenting curriculum delivered to refugee caregivers
Who it was tested with: Refugee caregivers (n=631 intervention, n=676 control) in Kiryandongo refugee settlement, Uganda.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A waitlist-control quasi-experimental design was implemented in the Kiryandongo refugee settlement (intervention n = 631, control n = 676). Propensity score matching (PSM) and Cohen's d estimates were used to examine the intervention effects." This design allows for comparison between groups while controlling for baseline differences, providing evidence of effectiveness beyond a single group measured before and after.
Study was conducted in a single refugee settlement; no data on direct child outcomes or long-term follow-up; unclear whether improvements were sustained after the 12 sessions ended
