The problem
Intervention: Assessment of access and acceptance barriers to routine childhood vaccination using the validated Vaccine Barriers Assessment Tool
Who it was tested with: Australian parents and carers of children aged <5 years (n=2,000), surveyed March-April 2024.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"National cross-sectional online survey" and "We measured 15 access and acceptance barriers to routine childhood vaccine uptake using the validated Vaccine Barriers Assessment Tool. Parents reported their child's vaccination status (up-to-date, partially vaccinated, or unvaccinated) and demographics." This is descriptive survey research measuring associations between barriers and vaccination status without experimental manipulation or longitudinal tracking, placing it in the PRE_POST tier (though better characterized as cross-sectional observation). The outcomes are inconclusive regarding whether addressing barriers would improve vaccination because the design cannot demonstrate causality.
Study design only measures associations, not causal relationships. Online survey panel recruitment may introduce selection bias. No comparison group or control condition. Cannot determine if barriers cause non-vaccination or result from it.
