The problem
Intervention: Comprehensive suicide risk assessment and 3-month follow-up monitoring of adolescents visiting emergency departments
Who it was tested with: Adolescents aged 12-17 presenting to pediatric emergency departments (n=2,104 completed follow-up from 6,448 enrolled).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Adolescents, ages 12-17, seeking health care at 13 pediatric EDs (Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network) and one Indian Health Service Hospital in the United States were consecutively recruited... A subset of participants (n = 2,897) was assigned to a 3-month telephone follow-up, and 2,104 participants completed this follow-up." This represents a prospective cohort design measuring outcomes in a defined population over time, which qualifies as EXPERIMENTAL tier due to the structured prospective follow-up design, though without a control group.
Study is observational with no control group and cannot establish causal relationships. Relies on self-report data and telephone follow-up, which may have accuracy limitations. Participants who completed follow-up may differ from those lost to follow-up.
