The problem
Intervention: Facility-based nutrition education with three quarterly interactive group sessions including hands-on food demonstrations using local ingredients, based on Kenya Ministry of Health counselling materials
Who it was tested with: Children aged 6-23 months and their mothers attending Level IV hospitals in Nyeri County, Kenya.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A longitudinal quasi-experimental study was conducted between May 2021 and March 2022 in two purposively selected Level IV hospitals (Karatina, intervention; Othaya, control)." This is a quasi-experimental design with a comparison group and repeated measures, meeting criteria for EXPERIMENTAL tier, and the statistical results show no significant benefit, supporting DOES_NOT_WORK.
Only two facilities were compared without randomisation, raising risk of site-level confounding; only 360 of 451 pairs were retained at nine months.
