The problem
Intervention: Family economic empowerment comprising matched savings accounts, financial management training, and small business development, combined with standard HIV care
Who it was tested with: HIV-positive adolescents aged 10-16 at enrollment (n=702) across 39 health clinics in Uganda.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"This paper describes a study protocol for a 5-year, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) funded, cluster randomized-controlled trial to evaluate a combination intervention, titled Suubi + Adherence, aimed at improving ART adherence among HIV perinatally infected adolescents (ages 10–16 at study enrollment) in Uganda." The study uses a rigorous experimental design with randomization and a comparison group, making it capable of generating high-quality evidence once results are available.
This document is a protocol describing a planned study, not results. No outcome data or effectiveness evidence is presented. The actual trial findings have not yet been reported in this document.
