The problem
Intervention: Assessment and documentation of psychological well-being outcomes in women who were married before age 15 compared to those married later
Who it was tested with: Ever-married women aged 18-45 in Niger (n=2764) and Ethiopia (n=4149), supplemented with qualitative interviews from Ethiopian child brides.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We use large-scale population-based data from ever-married women aged 18-45 in Niger (n = 2764) and Ethiopia (n = 4149) to examine the association of child marriage with overall psychological well-being and its sub-domains... Multivariate linear regressions were conducted to estimate the association between child marriage and overall psychological well-being." This is a population-based comparative study using regression analysis with a comparison group (women married at different ages), meeting the criteria for experimental tier due to its large scale and comparative design.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference; data relies on retrospective reporting from adult women; the study does not identify causal mechanisms or protective factors; unmeasured confounding variables may influence the associations
