The problem
Intervention: Education sessions on nutrition, sanitation, and infant and young child feeding (IYCF) for mothers
Who it was tested with: Mothers with children aged 0 to 5 years in Lokus Stunting Village, Indonesia.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"This type of research is experimental research using quasi experiment approach with non randomized control group pre-test–post test design research." The study measured maternal knowledge and child anthropometric outcomes before and after the intervention in both groups, but the lack of randomization and absence of significant differences in final outcomes between groups indicates the evidence is mixed regarding intervention effectiveness.
The quasi-experimental design without randomization limits causal inference. While mothers' knowledge improved in the intervention group, this did not translate to better child growth outcomes compared to controls, suggesting the intervention alone was insufficient to reduce stunting.
