Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-sonnet-5-5This community service activity in Indonesia trained 24 community health volunteers (cadres) to fill in and use the Growth Monitoring Card (KMS). The aim was to support early detection of growth problems in children under five and to help mothers understand growth monitoring results. Training, education, practice and direct mentoring at integrated health posts (posyandu) were used. Cadres' average knowledge score rose from 60.5% before the activity to 82% afterwards. Observers noted that cadres were enthusiastic and better understood the purpose of the card.
Key points
- 24 community health cadres took part in training, education, practice and direct mentoring at posyandu services.
- Knowledge was measured with a 15-question pre-test and post-test.
- The mean knowledge score rose from 60.5% to 82%, an increase of 22.5%.
- Observation during mentoring showed high cadre engagement and improved understanding of the KMS role in recording and monitoring growth.
- Practice-based mentoring gave cadres direct experience applying KMS procedures during posyandu services.
Limitations
The abstract describes a single group measured before and after with no comparison group, so the change cannot be firmly attributed to the activity. It reports no data on children's growth outcomes, on actual detection of growth problems, or on mothers' understanding, and skill observations are described only qualitatively.
Abstract
Abstract: Suboptimal utilization of the Growth Monitoring Card (KMS) may hinder the routine monitoring of child growth and the delivery of growth-related information to families. This community service activity aimed to strengthen cadres’ capacity to complete and utilize the KMS as a supporting instrument for early detection of growth disorders and to improve mothers’ understanding of child growth monitoring. The program involved 24 community health cadres through training, health education, practical sessions, and direct mentoring during integrated health post (posyandu) services. Knowledge was assessed using pre-test and post-test measures, each consisting of 15 questions, while practical skills were observed during KMS completion and growth-chart interpretation. The mean knowledge score increased from 60.5% at baseline to 82% after the intervention, representing an increase of 22.5%. Observations during the mentoring process indicated high cadre engagement and improved understanding of the role of the KMS in documenting and monitoring child growth. Practice-based mentoring provided cadres with direct experience in applying KMS procedures during posyandu services.
