The problem
Intervention: Daily supplementation with indispensable amino acids for 28 days
Who it was tested with: Children aged 18-36 months with stunting or severe stunting at high risk of environmental enteropathy in Ghana, Malawi, Zambia, Morocco, India and the Philippines.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"We will conduct coordinated randomised controlled trials in six countries to determine if supplementation with indispensable amino acids (IAAs) can improve intestinal barrier dysfunction in six geographically diverse populations of 18-36 months old children with stunting or severe stunting." The multi-country randomised design with standardised protocols and registered trials provides the methodological framework to generate experimental evidence on this intervention's effectiveness.
This is a protocol document with no results reported; the actual effectiveness of the intervention cannot be assessed until trial completion and analysis
