The problem
Intervention: Measurement of head circumference Z-score at first postnatal visit (<60 corrected days) for prediction and risk stratification
Who it was tested with: 1,338 small-for-gestational-age infants with initial visit before 60 corrected days, followed to 2 years.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Time-to-CUG was analyzed using Cox models; nonlinearity was assessed via restricted cubic splines and segmented regression." The study used standard survival analysis methods on a cohort measured at baseline (first visit) and followed longitudinally to track time to reaching catch-up growth thresholds, establishing the predictive association of early head circumference with growth recovery.
Retrospective design limits causal inference; analysis restricted to infants with early measurement (<60 days); follow-up limited to 2 years; no information on clinical outcomes or intervention implementation based on this prediction tool
