The problem
Intervention: Transcervical epiglottic suspension surgery
Who it was tested with: 15 infants with endoscopically confirmed Type III laryngomalacia who depended on respiratory support at a tertiary children's hospital in China; median age at surgery 58 days.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"This retrospective case series at a single-center tertiary children's hospital included consecutive infants" - the same infants were assessed before and after surgery with no comparison group, so this is a pre-post design rather than an experimental one.
Small sample (15), retrospective, single center, no control group, no sample size calculation, and a short study period. Outcomes could partly reflect natural recovery or other care.
